I find that insulting.
As I do most conversations on single parent-dom led by black people.
The idea that the absence of a man would mean someone didn't know how to be in relationships is ludicrous. I like how a mother's involvement is always discounted...but if a man is not around all hell breaks loose...the child is DOOMED to failure in all aspects of life.
Oh how black male patriarchy rears it's ugly head.
SMH.
What people keep missing is class is an issue here. Black folks associate single parent with low class and while their is a correlation between beign a single parent and being divorced...MOST of the single parent guys I know come from middle and upper middle class families with some being outright wealthy.
So yes, if you're dating RaeRae from the hood then you may have issues, but Tyrone who grew up int he suburbs and went to private school is less likely having relationship issues even though his momma is single.
It's the QUALITY of parent that matters NOT the number.
